More Than Ten Years of Friendship — A Wonderful Surprise from Our Partner School in Poland
On August 22, 2026, we received a wonderful surprise package from a school in Poland with which our Interact Club has maintained an online exchange for more than ten years.
The package was filled with Polish sweets, stationery, and many other items that gave us a taste of Polish culture.
One item that especially caught our attention was a colorful piece of stationery unlike anything we usually see in Japan. A single pen produces several colors blended together in a beautiful marble-like pattern. It was exciting for our students to discover something so unique, and it offered a fun and tangible way to experience another culture.
Our long-standing exchange with Poland has been supported by Ms. Magdalena Brodzinska, who has guided and encouraged our international activities for many years.
She has not only supported our exchanges with Poland, but has also actively participated in many of the international collaborative programs that our school has organized with partner schools around the world.
Although more than ten years have passed since our exchange began, the teacher in charge at our school and Ms. Magdalena Brodzinska have actually never met in person.
Despite the distance between Japan and Poland, we have continued working toward the same goal: helping students develop a commitment to peace and an international mindset that encourages them to look beyond national borders. Over the years, Ms. Magdalena Brodzinska has become a truly trusted educational partner who shares the same hopes and values.
Our online exchanges have also led to meaningful face-to-face connections.
One of our former students, who first communicated with Polish students online while attending our school, later traveled to Poland after entering university and visited Ms. Magdalena Brodzinska in person. Seeing a relationship that began through a computer screen during high school grow into a real international friendship after graduation was a particularly meaningful moment for us.
The value of international exchange does not end with a single event or program.
A small connection formed during high school can grow over time into a lasting relationship between individuals, schools, and even countries. The surprise package we received reminded us once again of the warmth and significance of the friendship we have built over more than a decade.
We hope to continue strengthening our friendship with our partners in Poland and creating opportunities for our students to connect across borders, understand different cultures, and think together about peace.
To everyone in Poland who sent us this wonderful surprise, thank you very much.

2026年8月22日、10年以上にわたって本校インターアクト部とオンライン交流を続けているポーランドの学校から、素敵なサプライズプレゼントが届きました。
箱の中には、ポーランドのお菓子や文房具をはじめ、ポーランドを身近に感じることのできるさまざまな品々が詰められていました。
特に目を引いたのが、日本ではあまり見かけないカラフルな文房具です。1本で何色もの色が混ざり合い、マーブル模様のような独特の色合いを楽しむことができるもので、生徒たちにとっても異文化を身近に感じる楽しい機会となりました。
本校とポーランドとの交流を長年にわたって支えてくださっているのが、ブロジンスカ先生です。
先生には、ポーランドとの交流だけでなく、本校がこれまで世界各国の協力校と実施してきたさまざまな国際共同プログラムにも積極的に参加していただきました。
交流を始めてから10年以上が経ちますが、実は本校の担当教員とブロジンスカ先生は、まだ一度も直接お会いしたことがありません。
それでも、日本とポーランドという遠く離れた国で、生徒たちの平和を願う心や、世界に目を向ける国際的なマインドを育てたいという同じ思いを持ち、長年にわたって活動を続けてきました。今では、国境を越えて同じ教育目標に取り組む、非常に心強い教育パートナーとなっています。
オンラインで始まった交流が、実際の出会いへとつながった例もあります。
本校在学中にポーランドの生徒たちとオンラインで交流した生徒が、卒業後、大学生になって実際にポーランドを訪問し、ブロジンスカ先生のもとを訪ねました。高校時代には画面越しだったつながりが、卒業後に国境を越えた実際の交流へと発展したことは、長年国際交流に取り組んできた私たちにとっても大変うれしい出来事でした。
国際交流の価値は、一度のイベントやプログラムだけで完結するものではありません。
高校時代に生まれた小さなつながりが、何年もの時間を経て、人と人、学校と学校、そして国と国をつなぐ関係へと育っていくことがあります。今回届いたプレゼントからも、10年以上積み重ねてきた交流の温かさを改めて感じることができました。
これからもポーランドの皆さんとの友情を大切にしながら、生徒たちが国境を越えて人とつながり、互いの文化を理解し、平和についてともに考える機会をつくっていきたいと思います。
そして、素敵なサプライズを届けてくださったポーランドの皆さん、本当にありがとうございました。
