４月24日(水)　三次市の西善寺住職小武正教氏に武田高校のグローバルスタディーズの授業にお越しいただき、宗教と戦争についてのお話をお聴きしました。

　小武氏は僧侶として、ミャンマーの難民、そしてここ日本の平和のために長年取り組んでこられました。 氏は、「宗教は人々を洗脳して戦争を支持させるために悪用される可能性があるが、仏教の真の教えは他の宗教と同様に殺人を禁じている。」と語っておられました。また、私たちに「お互い、特に自分と異なる人たちを人間として見る。」よう強く訴えられ、小武氏の心こもったメッセージに武田の生徒たちは感銘を受けました。後半は高校３年生たちがご住職を囲んでの座談会で、少し踏み込んだお話を伺うことができました。 生徒たちからは、「昔の僧侶が人々に戦争を奨励し、武器に溶かして梵鐘を寄付するなど軍国主義を支援していたことに驚きました。」や、「人々がお互いを憎むように洗脳されたと考えるのは恐ろしいです。 このようなことが二度と起こらないように、私たちは懸命に努力しなければならないと本当に思います。」というも感想もありました。

　グローバルスタディーズの生徒たちは平和教育を受ける中で、紛争地域に住む若者たちと交流するだけでなく、戦争と平和についての幅広い視点に触れています。 これにより、子どもたちが平和への理解を深め、紛争や核兵器のない世界への貢献に貢献できることを願っています。

On April 24th Friday, Buddhist priest of Saizenji temple in Miyoshi, Odake Shokyo, visited Takeda’s Global Studies classes to talk about religion and war.

As a priest, he has long worked for refugees in Myanmar and peace here in Japan. He said that religion can be mis-used to brain-wash people into supporting war, but that the true teachings of Buddhism, as will all other religions, forbade killing. He urged us to “see each-other, especially those different from us, as human beings.” The Takeda students were impressed by his heart-felt message. Some comments from students, “I was surprised that priests in the past encouraged people to go to war and supported militarism by donating temple bells to be melted into weapons.” and, “it’s scary to think that people were brain-washed into hating each other. I really think we must work hard to ensure this never happens again!”

As our Global Studies Students continue their peace education, they are being exposed to a wide variety of perspectives on war and peace, as well as interacting with young people living in conflict zones. We hope that this will help them to cultivate a deeper understanding of peace and help them to contribute to a world free of conflict and nuclear weapons.　（ Written by A. Souther)
