Yesterday (March 16th) we held the first ever “Principal’s Cup” Debate championship. The topic was “Should Japan make English an official language?” The two 3-person teams vying for The Cup were from 2-1 and 2-5. A debate tournament was held in each class to determine the finalists.

 

Debate is a big part of the English Expression and Aural & Oral communication curriculum for second year A Course and GS course students at Takeda.

 

This competition among this year’s students was especially fierce, resulting in a high level of debate at this year’s championship. The first ever “Principal’s Cup” was awarded to the team from 2-1, the “Dragons,” led by Matsumoto Ibuki. It was an exciting and memorable event for all involved, and a real sign that a culture of critical thinking and high-level communication skills is taking hold here at Takeda. 3月16日(水)に「日本は英語を公用語にすべきか」というトピックを取り上げ，第１回「校長杯」ディベート選手権を開催しました。各クラスで討論会が開催され、ファイナリストチームが決定しました。カップ戦を争ったのは3人一組の２チーム：２年１組のクラス優勝チームと５組のクラス優勝チームでした。

 

ディベート活動は、武田の2年生AコースとGSコースの生徒の授業「英語表現」と「Aural & Oral Communication」で大きな役割を果たしています。

 

今日の決勝戦では高レベルの議論が繰り広げられました。初の「校長杯」は２年１組松本さん率いる「ドラゴンズ」チームに贈られました。関係者全員にとって，エキサイティングで思い出に残るイベントであり，武田で批判的思考と高レベルのコミュニケーション能力の文化が定着していることを示す本当の兆候でした。来年の討論者に幸運あれ!
