Collecting Signatures for the Petition to Abolish Nuclear Weapons

 On Saturday, August 4^th, students from the GS Course and Interact Club joined the yearly petition drive led by Eishin High School and Jogakuin High School. Under the shade of the trees surrounding the Atomic Bomb Dome in Peace Park, students used both English and Japanese to collect signatures from Japanese and foreign visitors alike. According to Li Yusi, first year GS student, the activity gave a sense of satisfaction. “Every signature we collected, I felt we were just a little closer to world peace,” she said. The campaign spanned several days around August 6^th, and all the signatures collected will be added together and delivered to the UN. In this way, high school students are doing something to make the voices for peace, and the message of Hiroshima, heard around the world.

核兵器廃絶署名活動に参加

8月4日(土)インターアクトクラブとGSコースの生徒たちは，毎年広島女学院高校とエイシン高校が実施している署名活動に参加しました。平和記念公園の原爆ドームの周りの木陰で，生徒たちは日本人観光客や海外からの観光客に英語と日本語で署名を呼びかけました。GSコース1年の李さんはこの活動を通じてある満足感を得ることができました。「私たちが集めた署名一つ一つを見ると，ほんの少しだけれども世界平和に近づいているように感じました。」と彼女は感想を述べました。この署名キャンペーンは8月6日前後に数日間行われ，集められた署名は国連に届けられます。このようにして，高校生たちは平和に向けての声を上げるため，そしてヒロシマのメッセージを世界中に届けるために活動をしています。
