On April 24th Friday, Buddhist priest of Saizenji temple in Miyoshi, Odake Shokyo, visited Takeda\u2019s Global Studies classes to talk about religion and war.<\/p>\n

As a priest, he has long worked for refugees in Myanmar and peace here in Japan. He said that religion can be mis-used to brain-wash people into supporting war, but that the true teachings of Buddhism, as will all other religions, forbade killing. He urged us to \u201csee each-other, especially those different from us, as human beings.\u201d The Takeda students were impressed by his heart-felt message. Some comments from students, \u201cI was surprised that priests in the past encouraged people to go to war and supported militarism by donating temple bells to be melted into weapons.\u201d and, \u201cit\u2019s scary to think that people were brain-washed into hating each other. I really think we must work hard to ensure this never happens again!\u201d<\/p>\n

As our Global Studies Students continue their peace education, they are being exposed to a wide variety of perspectives on war and peace, as well as interacting with young people living in conflict zones. We hope that this will help them to cultivate a deeper understanding of peace and help them to contribute to a world free of conflict and nuclear weapons.\u3000\uff08 Written by A. Souther)<\/p>\n
