\u3000On Friday, November the 1st<\/sup>, we held the first Takeda High School 1st<\/sup> grade Recitation Contest. All 1st<\/sup> graders participated in preliminary rounds in their classes, and the top students advanced to the contest held in the gymnasium, complete with decorations and guest judges. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u3000All three selections were represented in the top three contestants, Tabata \u00a0<\/span>Tatsuya (1-2) who did Steve Jobs speech, \u201cYou\u2019ve got to find what you love,\u201d Okada Nanako (1-2), who did the coaches speech from the movie \u201cFriday Night Lights\u201d about \u201cbeing perfect, and Morihara Takahiro (1-1), who did the selection from the movie \u201cRatatouille\u201d (Remi\u2019s Oishii Restaurant in Japanese), respectively. The top three, as well as all of Friday\u2019s constants received prizes, but the biggest prize was the confidence gained by the students and teachers from such a high level contest. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u3000\u201cI was surprised at the high level of skill with which the students spoke. It was obvious that they had prepared well,\u201d said special guest judge Reuben Lewis, a Hiroshima University student from Sierra Leone studying peace building. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u3000Takeda teacher, Ashley Souther, praised the students for more than just their English: \u201cThe message of each the speeches \u2013 don\u2019t settle, do everything that you can, thinking about others, are very important. I felt the students really understood these messages from the way they spoke from the heart.\u201d <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u3000All in all, the contest was a great success , but we must work harder to make next year\u2019s even better. Because as Steve Jobs says, \u201cdon\u2019t settle!\u201d\u3000\u3000\u3000\u3000\u3000\u3000\u3000\u3000\u3000\u3000\u3000\u3000\u3000\u3000\u3000<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
